Environment & Activities La Casa de la Villa **

Laguna Negra. The lake is a reservoir of glacial water and surrounded by rock walls, pine trees, beech and ferns. Its waters are dark, and some people have seen waves that reach the surface, presumably by sea currents which gets mixed up with the lagoon icy waters. It is famous for the dark appearance of the landscape, the mystery of the echo of voices and lots of legends about it. For example, the legend that had Antonio Machado, recounting the story of Alvaro Gonzalez, murdered by his two eldest children and thrown into the lagoon.

Cañón del Río Lobos. Deep limestone canyon formed by an intense fluvial erosion of the river Lobos. Located in the foothill mountains between the Iberian Range and the high plateau of the Duero. The river runs through Burgos and continues burrowing the Cretaceous limestone along more than 25 km.

Calatañazor is the most medieval village in medieval Soria. Miraculously? We do not know, but the fact is that it has been preserved along the years. Paneled doors with antique hardware, crowned by conical chimneys roofs covered with tile, boulder pavement. In this unique setting Orson Welles filmed "Chimes at Midnight".

Berlanga de Duero The historical importance of this village lies in the fact that it is in the line of the Duero, a natural border between Moorish and Christians kingdoms throughout the Middle Ages, and Castilian and Aragonese kingdoms later on. Along with Gormaz, Osma, San Esteban and Atienza fortresses, this real line was conquered again and again by both the crescent and the cross.

Monumental Soria The interest in these hard and cold lands contrasts sharply with the one lots of civilizations have expressed throughout history, and specially the widespread depopulation experienced by the province for decades.

Playa Pita This is a beautiful site located in Pinar Grande picnic area and next to Cuerda del Pozo Reservoir. Less than 40 km from Soria, it is the ideal place for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing or kayaking.
It also has lots of nice shading areas and over 40 barbecues, tables and wooden benches, camp site and bar. It also has a large car park.
