Environment & Activities Albarranco

Location:

In Sierra Norte, Guadalajara, by the river Pelagallinas, and on the eastern slope of Alto Rey is the village of Prádena de Atienza. It is a mountain village that still retains its architectural and ethnological character. You can find lots of traditional rural buildings in the village centre. This is because it was isolated for centuries until 1965, when a road to the village was built.

No doubt it is a place where time seems to stand still, where its scenic beauty and tranquility helps you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city. In short, a place where you can enjoy your holidays in contact with nature.
The traveler can enjoy great Rural Romanesque treasures - Trinity Church in Atienza (13th century); St. Bartholomew in Campisábalos (12th century) declared a Historical-Artistic Monument in 1965; Santa Coloma (12th century), which still retains its graceful Mudejar latticework.

1300 m above sea level, a tributary to the river Bornova flows through Laguna de Somolinos. This is a protected natural area with valuable ecosystems and habitats. In a place where water is scarce, this natural site between rocky cliffs keeps one of the most diverse habitat of birds, in addition to otters, deer, foxes, and a variety of micro-mammals.

Between sun and shade, and following the steps of other people, hikers can feel the quiet atmosphere in these narrow lanes around Prádena de Atienza. One of them, along the Pelagallinas riverside, will lead you to Pozos Negros, where you can enjoy a well deserved and refreshing swim.
